The Ajman Municipality on Wednesday launched a prepaid parking fee service in two busy areas of the emirate.
From Saturday (December 9), Al Ittihad and Shaikh Rashid Bin Humaid areas will have prepaid parking fee service. With this new regulation, 1,038 parking lots in these two busy streets will become paid parking area. The prepaid service has been initiated as the streets experience traffic issues round the clock, according to the municipality.
Dr Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, executive director of infrastructure development sector and planning department, said that the machines have been installed in Al Ittihad Road from the beginning of Ajman Gate parking to Noor Al Kawthar Mall, and in Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Street up to Ajman Towers areas.
Parking inspectors will be deployed during two periods starting from 8am to 1pm and in the evening from 5am to 9pm to monitor whether motorists are complying with the new regulation.
He added the decision is aimed at maintaining the flow of traffic in the vital streets to deal with the issue of random use of parking spots and exploiting them for long periods of time.
Dr Bin Omair said that the department also aims to provide an effective system for parking management in the emirate to ensure the largest number of public parking spaces.
He said that the decision to implement the prepaid fees service in the two streets in the emirate was implemented under the direct guidance of Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Ajman Municipality and planning department, as part of his efforts to continue the urban development of the emirate.
"The chairman of the municipality is following up closely with the launching of important projects to maintain the flexibility of traffic movement and providing absolute comfort for individuals using crowded streets," Bin Omair Said
He added that motorists could make the payment via the Mawkifi (my position) smart application or via SMS service.
