NORTHFIELD, Ill.-- (BUSINESS WIRE/AETOSWire)-- The College of American Pathologists (CAP), the world’s leading provider of laboratory quality solutions, will be presenting sessions and hosting an exhibit at Medlab Middle East, the world’s largest laboratory and in-vitro diagnostics exhibition and conference.

More than 19,000 laboratory professionals and 600 exhibiting companies are expected at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center, February 3-8, 2020.

Laboratories in more than 100 countries rely on the CAP for external quality assurance (EQA) programs or proficiency testing (PT) and laboratory accreditation. More than 22,000 laboratory sites use CAP PT and more than 8,000 are CAP inspected and accredited.

“The CAP’s comprehensive range of laboratory quality solutions is constantly evolving to keep in step with changes in laboratory medicine, enabling more time for what matters most—accuracy in the laboratory, resulting in better patient outcomes,” said CAP President Patrick Godbey, MD, FCAP. “The CAP has a long and proud history in the Middle East, and we are pleased that 64 additional laboratories in the region are now CAP accredited.”

The CAP and the Dubai Health Authority are hosting a workshop focused on accreditation, including topics such as understanding and avoiding common quality deficiencies and, management of modern techniques in molecular pathology.

“I have worked with many laboratory professionals who have been through other inspections and they all agree the CAP is unique in its breadth and scope,” said Rana Nabulsi, PhD, FACHE, Dubai Hospital Authority head of Pathology Quality Department and a CAP inspector. “The CAP proficiency testing program is the most comprehensive external quality assurance program available. What this means is that laboratories and regulatory bodies can have meaningful comparisons and benchmarks for quality and performance.”

The CAP will recognize Dr. Nabulsi and Aaron Han, MD, FCAP, consultant pathologist at American Hospital Dubai and the CAP’s newly appointed Deputy Commissioner for United Arab Emirates (UAE), for their extraordinary service and ongoing commitment to the CAP and laboratory accreditation.

“I expect to facilitate the growth of new accredited facilities and training of UAE inspection team leaders,” said Dr. Han. “Exciting days are ahead of us and I know with the can-do spirit of the Middle East CAP family; we will continue to achieve our aspirations to benefit our patients and advance the field of pathology.

The CAP exhibit (booth Z6 B30), thematically focusing on “Partner with us to achieve continuous quality improvement,” will feature the CAP’s latest developments including:

  • New PT programs
  • Updated Laboratory Accreditation Program checklists
  • The Performance Analytics Dashboard tailored for laboratories enrolled in CAP programs.
