The emirate is set for the opening of a physical therapy and rehabilitation facility that claims to be the only one of its kind in the UAE region.
When it opens in September, the Thumbay Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Centre will offer the much-needed rehabilitation treatment for UAE residents as well as medical tourists.
The 30,000-square-feet facility will also serve as a training centre for the Gulf Medical University (GMU) therapy students. It will also serve those pursuing Masters programmes in Physiotherapy.
Located within the GMU campus, Thumbay Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Centre will also host a sports medicine, hydrotherapy unit, GAIT analysis lab, and an ergonomic simulation lab that promotes analytical and therapeutic services.
GMU chancellor Hossam Hamdy said that the university is now ready to prepare a highly skilled health care workforce.
“We are delighted that our physical therapy students will now train using modern equipment and facilities thus ensuring that they acquire the necessary skills needed in their field,” he said.
The centre also aims to give students access to a wide variety of clinical cases during the course of their studies, and provide them with job opportunities.
The facility will also provide specialised physiotherapy services in the fields of musculoskeletal, cardio-respiratory, ceurology, cediatrics and women’s health.
